Yanaka Coffee is a small roastery in old Tokyo that roasts its beans to order. The drip coffee and the slow pace of the neighbourhood make it one of the nicest cafe stops in the city.

The shop moved about 50 m in August 2026 and is now on Yomise-dori, open 10am to 8pm. Take a cup to go and walk through the cemetery and down Yanaka Ginza. Simple, calm, old Tokyo.

Yanaka Ginza itself is for snacks: the menchi-katsu stand, the taiyaki, and the shops selling one thing each. Sit-down meals cluster along the lanes toward Nezu and Sendagi. Kayaba Coffee is a 1938 kissaten on the corner near the cemetery, open from breakfast. Yanaka Coffee roasts small batches for the walk, and Himitsudo draws a queue for shaved ice, longest in summer. Evenings are quiet. For izakaya, Ueno's Ameyoko is two Yamanote stops from Nippori and stays open late.
