Smaller things on in the next three months: shopping street festivals, park fairs, flea markets, temple fair days and ward events, 1775 of them across 60 of the neighbourhood guides and beyond. How to do a Tokyo festival well
Arrive before the schedule says
Mikoshi processions and fireworks start on time and the good viewing spots fill an hour early. Shrine festivals are best in the late afternoon, when the food stalls are open and the processions return.
Bring cash
Festival stalls are cash only, mostly in 500 yen units. A yakisoba, a beer, and a game for the kids runs about 2,000 yen a head.
Plan the train home
After fireworks and big matsuri the nearest station queues for an hour. Walk one stop further, or eat nearby and leave after the crowd. Last trains run around midnight.
Yukata are welcome
Summer festivals and fireworks are the nights Tokyo wears yukata. Rental shops near Asakusa and Harajuku fit and dress you in an hour, and nobody will think it is odd.
Rain rarely cancels
Shrine festivals run in light rain and gardens are better for it. Fireworks are the exception; they postpone to the next day or cancel, so check the official page on the morning.
Pair it with the area
Every card's map link opens the festival's neighbourhood with your dates set, so the hotel search and the places nearby are one tap away.
The big festivals, guide by guide
Each one has its own guide with the dates, where to watch and how to get there.

Good to know
What is on in Tokyo in October 2026?
730 dated events are on in October 2026, from shrine festivals and markets to exhibitions and garden openings. Arguably the most comfortable month of the year: dry, mild, still green, and short on crowds. Chrysanthemum shows, food festivals, and design week fill the calendar.
What is on in Tokyo this weekend?
532 listed events overlap this weekend (23 Oct to 25 Oct). The this-weekend page and the filter above narrow the list to just those, and the map can show them with your dates.
Are Tokyo festivals free?
Most shrine festivals, street fairs, and park events are free to walk into; you pay only for food stalls and games. 1101 of the 2680 events listed here are free. Exhibitions, some illuminations, and seated performances charge admission; where an official page exists, the card links to it for prices.
How accurate are the dates?
Dated entries are checked against the organiser or venue and refreshed every week; past events drop off automatically, and a card whose event has ended disappears the day after even between refreshes. Annual events whose next dates are not yet announced are marked "dates to be confirmed" and sit at their usual time of year until the organiser publishes them.
Can I add these events to my calendar?
Yes. Add to calendar on any event puts it straight into Google Calendar or Outlook, or opens it in Apple Calendar. Subscribe to calendar at the top adds the whole list to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook as a subscription that updates itself every week.
How do I get to a festival and back?
Almost everything here is within a short walk of a train station named on the map. Big fireworks and festivals end with crowded trains, so plan to linger at a nearby izakaya for an hour rather than joining the first wave to the station. The last trains run around midnight.
Plan around it
