The Tokyo International Forum is Rafael Vinoly's 1997 convention centre, known for its glass hall shaped like the hull of a ship and held up by a spine of white steel ribs. It's one of the few pieces of grand modern architecture in Tokyo you can wander through freely.

Insider tip
Take the escalators to the top of the glass hall and cross the elevated catwalks. Entry is free and almost nobody bothers. The Oedo Antique Market fills the plaza on some Sundays.

Japan's largest outdoor antique market, held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month with 250 or so dealers selling old kimono, ceramics, woodblock prints, and retro homeware. Dates occasionally shift and there is usually no August edition, so check the official schedule before going.

A three-day food event run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, with stalls across Marunouchi, Yurakucho, Hibiya and Toyosu serving dishes made with Tokyo-grown vegetables, fish and meat. There are also farm produce sales and hands-on workshops. Hours differ a little by venue.
