Akasaka Hikawa Shrine is a wooded shrine whose main sanctuary was built in 1730 by the eighth shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune, and came through the Great Kanto Earthquake and the 1945 air raids intact. A giant ginkgo about 400 years old stands in the grounds, still leafing even though wartime fires hollowed it out.
