Hie Shrine sits on a hill in the middle of Tokyo's political and business district, and it's known for the tunnel of vermilion torii gates on its west stairs. There are escalators beside the main stairs, so you can get up there in heels.

For the torii tunnel, take the Sanno Inari stairs on the west side, the ones closest to Akasaka Station. The shrine's messenger is the monkey, tied to safe childbirth and family harmony.

One of Edo's three great festivals, held at Hie Shrine every June. The grand procession through central Tokyo only runs in even years, so 2027 is a quieter edition limited to shrine rituals, tea ceremony, and evening bon odori on the grounds.

One of Tokyo's longest-running weekly marches, held every Saturday morning at Ark Hills since 2009 with farmers and small producers selling vegetables, bread, and prepared food. A relaxed local scene ten minutes from Roppongi.
