Insider tip

Entry is 300 yen. The Nakajima teahouse on the pond serves matcha with a seasonal sweet. Tokyo Cruise water buses from Asakusa dock inside the garden, so you can arrive by river. Check the day's timetable first.

Start early at Tsukiji Outer Market for tamagoyaki on a stick and a uni bowl, then it's ten minutes to Hamarikyu Gardens, a shogun-era garden with a tea house on an island in a seawater pond. Have matcha there. Take your time.
