The Katsushika Shibamata Tora-san Museum is set into the Edo River embankment and devoted to Otoko wa Tsurai yo, the 48-film series about the wandering salesman Tora-san of Shibamata, with sets, props, costumes and dioramas from the films. The Yoji Yamada Museum next door covers the director.

Shibamata sits at Tokyo's eastern edge on the Edo River, and it keeps the low-rise shitamachi streetscape the rest of the city lost. There's a 200-metre temple approach of dango and cracker shops, a temple covered in extraordinary wood carvings, and a hand-rowed ferry to Chiba. It's famous across Japan as the hometown of Tora-san, and in 2018 it became the first place in Tokyo named an Important Cultural Landscape.
