Book Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu if you want to walk out of the station and into the crossing. It sits inside Shibuya Mark City and is directly connected to Shibuya Station. Book Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel for the view and the airport bus at the door. Book sequence Miyashita Park or Trunk(Hotel) Cat Street if the hotel should be a reason in itself. Book Tokyu Stay Shibuya Shin-Minamiguchi for value on a longer stay.

The catch is the price. Shibuya’s median was US$272 a night in the weekly hotel price index sampled on 20 October 2026, against Shinjuku’s US$213 for the same dates. The two alternatives to price up are one Yamanote stop south in Ebisu (median US$309), or the Shinjuku alternative altogether.

Luxury and View Hotels

Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu is the hotel people mean when they say “connected to the station”. It occupies the upper part of Shibuya Mark City, the complex above the Keio Inokashira Line platforms, and the hotel’s own materials describe it as directly connected to Shibuya Station on the JR, Tokyu, Tokyo Metro and Keio lines. The fifth-floor lounge looks straight down on the scramble, and some rooms on the upper floors face the crossing too. Rooms are functional rather than grand, and there are 408 of them, so availability holds up better than at the small boutiques. See prices

Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel stands in Sakuragaoka-cho, the hill south-west of the station, and the hotel quotes a five-minute walk to Shibuya Station. It opened in 2001 in the Cerulean Tower high-rise, so upper-floor rooms look across the whole west side of the city. Two practical reasons to pick it over the Excel: the Airport Limousine bus to and from Haneda stops at the hotel, and Sakuragaoka is a calm slope of offices and small restaurants once the evening crowd has drifted downhill. Shibuya Stream Hotel, formerly Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu, is the newer sibling on the south side of the tracks. The hotel says it’s directly connected to exit C2 of the subway and Tokyu station and to the JR New South Exit. The Stream complex sits over the reopened Shibuya River walkway, a stretch of restaurants and terraces that doesn’t feel anything like Center Gai, even though it’s three minutes away. See prices

Hotel Indigo Tokyo Shibuya opened in August 2023 at the top of the Dogenzaka-dori complex, with 272 rooms and a fashion-led interior that nods to the streetwear culture below. It’s on Dogenzaka, a few minutes uphill from the crossing, which means the streets under the windows stay loud until well after midnight. Ask for a high floor. See prices

Boutique Hotels That Are the Point of the Trip

sequence Miyashita Park is built into the Miyashita Park complex, the rooftop park with a shopping floor under it, a short walk north of the station along the Yamanote tracks. SOAK, the bar on the hotel’s 18th floor, has a terrace over the Shibuya skyline, and the hotel puts itself three minutes on foot from Shibuya Station. The Miyashita Park pin on the map has the tips for the park itself. See prices

Trunk(Hotel) Cat Street is the original Trunk, a 15-room boutique in Jingumae on Cat Street, the pedestrian lane that links Shibuya to Harajuku. Allow about ten minutes on foot from Shibuya Station. That’s the catch, and also the point: you’re not in Shibuya so much as between Shibuya and Harajuku, in the calmest blocks either neighbourhood has. The lounge bar is a scene in its own right. Mid-Range and Business Hotels

Tokyu Stay Shibuya Shin-Minamiguchi is the value pick for longer stays. The hotel says it’s two minutes on foot from the JR New South Exit, every room has a washer-dryer and a microwave, and the interior was renovated in 2022. Tokyu Stay’s format suits stays of four nights or more, when you’d rather do laundry in the room than hunt for a coin laundry. The New South Exit is the calm end of the station, and it’s a long walk through the station to the Hachiko side. See prices

Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya-Jingumae is the chain’s Shibuya property, in Jingumae, with listings quoting about six minutes on foot to Shibuya Station and five to Meiji-Jingumae on the subway. The Dormy Inn formula is big communal hot-spring baths and a free bowl of noodles late in the evening, which after a day on foot you’ll appreciate more than a bigger room. It sits in the calmer blocks north-east of the station towards Omotesando. See prices

Capsule hotels are thinner on the ground in Shibuya than in Shinjuku, and the ones that exist don’t stay put. The capsule hotel guide covers what a night involves and which chains hold up. Search the map with your dates for what’s open in Shibuya that week rather than relying on a name.

Which Blocks Stay Quiet

Shibuya’s noise is concentrated, so it’s easy to avoid. Dogenzaka, Center Gai and the blocks around the Hachiko exit run loud until the last trains and then pick up again with the early crowd. Three pockets sleep well.

  • Sakuragaoka, the hill south-west of the station behind Cerulean Tower. Offices, small restaurants, a few good bakeries and nothing open late.
  • Shoto, west of Bunkamura and uphill from Dogenzaka. Residential, embassy-hushed, with the Shoto Museum of Art as the only reason a visitor wanders in.
  • Jingumae and Cat Street, north towards Harajuku. Trunk and the Dormy Inn are here, and the side lanes are quiet by 10pm.

The Shibuya neighbourhood guide covers the backstreets, and walking from the crossing down to the Meguro canal in Nakameguro is the best way to see the calmer side of the area on your first evening.

Choosing by Exit and Train Line

Shibuya Station is a junction of four rail companies and nine lines, and where a hotel sits relative to the exits decides how your mornings feel. JR Yamanote Line (the loop, three stops to Shinjuku, one to Ebisu), JR Saikyo and Shonan-Shinjuku Lines (Shinjuku non-stop, Yokohama, Kamakura), Tokyo Metro Ginza Line (Omotesando, Ginza, Asakusa), Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line running through onto the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line (Otemachi, Oshiage for Skytree), Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line running through onto the Tokyu Toyoko Line (Daikanyama, Nakameguro, Yokohama), and the Keio Inokashira Line (Shimokitazawa, Kichijoji).

The station is a maze of rebuilt passages, so the exit printed on a booking page matters more than the distance does. Don’t judge by metres. Tokyu Stay and Shibuya Stream sit at the south end by the New South Exit and exit C2. The Excel and the Inokashira Line share Mark City on the west side. sequence and the Dormy Inn are north, towards Miyashita Park and Meiji-dori.

The Cheaper Alternatives

Shibuya’s median sits at the top end of the index’s big hubs. Three alternatives.

Shinjuku, Shinjuku, Tokyo

Ebisu, one Yamanote stop south, sampled 46 listings with a median of US$309 on 20 October 2026. The Ebisu neighbourhood guide has the free Garden Place tower view and the restaurant streets west of the station, which are the best in this part of the city.

Shinjuku, three Yamanote stops north, sampled 48 listings with a median of US$213, and it has the deepest supply in Tokyo. The Shinjuku vs Shibuya comparison settles which suits your trip, and the Shinjuku hotel guide covers the picks by exit.

Daikanyama and Nakameguro are the neighbourhoods people want to sleep in after one walk down the canal, and both have almost no hotels. The index found 72 listings in Daikanyama and 92 in Nakameguro in the latest sample. Don’t try to book there. Visit from Shibuya on the Toyoko Line.

When to Book

Shibuya fills first in cherry blossom season in late March and early April, Golden Week at the end of April, the November foliage weeks and the fortnight around New Year. For those windows, book as soon as your dates are fixed and go for a cancellable rate. Weekdays are cheaper than weekends all year, and the price index shows the current spread between the cheapest quarter of listings and the median, which is a fair guide to how much a flexible date is worth.

Getting to Shibuya Hotels from the Airports

From Haneda, the Airport Limousine bus runs a Shibuya route that stops at Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel, Shibuya Station and Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu at Mark City, roughly hourly, taking about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. It’s the easiest option with luggage. By train, take the Keikyu line to Shinagawa and change to the Yamanote Line.

From Narita, Narita Express trains bound for Shinjuku stop at Shibuya, about 75 to 80 minutes from the airport. Check the timetable, because not all of them stop at Shibuya. Some end at Tokyo and some head for Yokohama. Buy a Suica or Pasmo card at the airport and you’re covered for everything after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest hotel in Shibuya that still feels comfortable?

Tokyu Stay Shibuya Shin-Minamiguchi is the reliable answer: a private room two minutes from the JR New South Exit with a washer-dryer in it. Below that, you’re choosing between a capsule and a hotel one stop away. The cheapest quarter of Shibuya listings sat under US$202 a night in the index sampled on 20 October 2026, so anything advertised far below that is usually much further from the station than the listing implies.

Which hotel is closest to Shibuya Crossing?

Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu, which is directly connected to the station inside Shibuya Mark City and has a lounge overlooking the scramble. Hotel Indigo Tokyo Shibuya on Dogenzaka is the nearest of the newer hotels. The crossing and the Hachiko statue are both on the map with the best times to see them empty.

Should you stay in Shibuya or a nearby neighbourhood instead?

Stay in Shibuya for a short trip where you want to be inside the postcard. For anything longer, Ebisu is one Yamanote stop south with calmer streets and some of the best restaurants in the area, and Shinjuku has the deepest hotel supply in the city at a lower median. Daikanyama, Nakameguro and Shimokitazawa are better visited than slept in, since each has only a handful of hotels.
